Celebrating National Gardening Week
This week is National Gardening Week. Over the last year, we’ve come to rely on our gardens and green spaces more than ever. Many of us have rediscovered the importance of connecting with nature for our mental and physical wellbeing. We are celebrating through sharing some of our favourite garden and landscape inspired pieces from Find a Maker members, including Kate Kato, Jeremy James, Caroline Reynolds, Anne Tomlin and Joanna Lloyd.
Grow Your Own, Make Your Own and Recycle
On Tuesday, we chatted live on Instagram with Find a Maker member and mixed Media artist, Michael McMillan from her studio in Rugby.
Michaela makes bold, colourful sculptures using recycled materials, creating a new life for unwanted objects. Michaela's work is influenced by a childhood of parables with hidden messages, and parents with a ‘Good Life’ philosophy - Grow Your Own, Make Your Own and Recycle.
5 Favourites from Find a Maker
Michaela has also chosen her 5 Favourites from the Find a Maker Family, which are an an eclectic mix of makers from a variety of disciplines.
I really love the silverware, the handles on these are stunning. Would be great to use them eating with friends!
Lucky enough to have some of Helen’s work, it's very precious to me. One pair is some nun earrings - they are my earring sisters - one standing and one on a bench, love them!
I really love how Ruths palette is so understated, fragile and delicate, but tackles big narratives and emotional issues. A beautiful sense of nostalgia with a contemporary edgy twist.
Gorgeous colours, eclectic and a beautiful details added to them.
Lauren’s work is just exquisite, I love the sculptural gothicness and fairytale aspect to it all. I can imagine it growing and twisting on your fingers as you wear it!
