Textile artist and designer Sian O’Doherty has won key awards for her beautiful works. Located in Pembrokeshire, she looks to the landscape around her – and the tradition and techniques of Welsh textile patterns – to create fine pieces to be worn and to live with.
Ambrose Vevers makes furniture that is both classic and contemporary. Finely crafted, with deceptively simple lines, each piece from his Dartmoor workshop in Devon is the kind that, once within a family, will get handed from generation to generation.
Using rich red earthenware, Victoria is a studio potter who makes tableware that comes with an engaging narrative. A keen observer, the stories behind her works range from the life of a former Sheffield steel worker, to the simplicity of designs favoured by the potters of the St Croix Valley.
Anthony Theakston’s elegant sculptural pieces draw on wildlife for inspiration and are known for their sleek, tactile, pared-down forms. Working in ceramic and bronze, his pieces attract ardent collectors; it’s a treat to see a body of his work in one place, as you will at Bovey Tracey.
Tidal, buoy, New Islands – the jeweller Caroline Finlay takes the ‘unpredictable nature and untamed beauty of the Scottish coastline’, and names her handmade pieces after the elements she sees. She uses silver and vitreous enamel, creating small works of art, each one different from the last.
