The Art of Gentle Protest
Sarah Corbett is an award-winning campaigner and makes DIY Kits and tools for people around the world to be gentle craftivists. We've followed Sarah Corbett's career closely for many years and we are honoured that she has taken time out of her incredibly busy schedule to choose this week's 5 Favourites from this year's Contemporary Craft Festival.
Sarah's TEDTalk, 'Activism Needs Introverts' recently reached a million views and her new book ‘How To Be A Craftivist - the art of gentle protest’ came out October 2017. FIND OUT MORE HERE (& available in all good bookshops)
I love seeing hand stitched art framed in people’s homes and I have a thing for stitched words too. What lovely reminder of the beautiful birds in our world and how delicate they are; a lovely daily reminder for us to help protect them too
Such beautiful little creatures that you just want to touch, hold and play with. I love the clean simple design and bold block colours and you can really imagine little personalities for them. Great for the kid in all of us
I love wearing clothes where I know the story and it fits my morals. Teresa makes such timeless, functional items I can imagine only get better with age, made in the UK and all natural resources. They make you feel part of the history and tradition of makers in the UK.
There is something so intimate looking at artwork where you can see every line of the pencil. It makes me feel really connected to the artist. Esther’s images are so calming in colour and size. They feel humble and delicate and made with love. I love her bears - so mysterious, strong yet vulnerable and curious.
There is so much beautiful in the imperfect shapes of each object Penny creates. - made with the same hands but no two pieces are ever the same. Art in themselves but also super useful to use to store or share things.
