Bovey’s Contemporary Craft Festival reaches final of prestigious tourism awards
As The Contemporary Craft Festival looks forward next year to celebrating 15 years of success, the organisers were delighted to be told today that they have reached the final of Visit Devon annual awards in the Best Event category. Having scooped the Gold award twice in the two years that they entered, nerves will be on end to find out if they can make it a triple! The winners will be announced at a black-tie dinner at The Guildhall in Plymouth on November 23rd, hosted by Britain's leading travel commentator Simon Calder.
Festival Director, Sarah James who lives in Bovey Tracey, has led the business from the very beginning was suitably thrilled with the result.
“We work really hard each year to ensure our visitors are inspired and well looked after. We are a small team that work incredibly hard to pull together a large event that is appreciated by nearly 10,000 people each year. We are thrilled to be shortlisted for Tourism Event of the Year for the 3rd time”
Nearly 10,000 visitors regularly visit one of the UK’s largest and much-loved craft events, hosted in the pretty Dartmoor town of Bovey Tracey. You can expect a weekend brimming with live action including The Pottery Showdown competition, the Out of the Woods tent which celebrates British woodland craft skills and the magnificent Craft Cinema, hosted in a vintage Bedford Bus. The unique opportunity to meet over 200 makers of contemporary craft is the highlight of the weekend which includes award winning silversmiths, potters, furniture makers, textile artists, glass makers, jewellery and next year includes demonstrations by boat builders and surfboard makers.
It doesn’t stop there, you can book onto a great range of craft workshops where you can learn craft skills and a packed Children’s Craft tent will keep budding young craftspeople enthralled all day.
Great live music fills the air from Devon performers topped off with a wide variety of locally sourced, delicious street food. A weekend to remember.
