More News from the Capital of Craft…3 Weeks to go
Midgley Green is a contemporary crafts & homewares shop founded by Katherine Midgley & Seamus Green, nestled away in a stunning Victorian building in Clevedon, Somerset. As well as being one of latest Showcase Award sponsors, they have cast their discerning eye over our exhibitors and made some suitably beautiful choices.
Alison Dickens baskets are full of natural flair and honest beauty. The process of making a willow basket hasn’t changed for hundreds of years, yet Alison has the ability to make her work appear contemporary through the sculptural forms she produces.
Takahashi McGil produce some of our favourite woodwork. The quiet and contemplative nature of their pieces works to create a calming atmosphere when in use. There is a meditative quality in the mark making across the gorgeous wooden surfaces.
Ali Herbert has to be one of the finest potters working in ceramics today. The purity of her work, simple forms and subtle glazes, conjures images of still life in our minds. It would be a pleasure to sit and slow down using Ali’s wonderful pottery.
Sabine Nemet fires her pots using a process that never fails to impress us. Wood firing is the most characterful way of impressing life a soul into a pot. Especially when the soda glaze that Sabine uses dapples across the surface.
Solidwood, furniture and material makers
Solid Wool make not only some of the best looking furniture that we’ve come across, but they do it in a mindful way. Their mission to raise the price of good quality wool and showcase British craftsmanship is something we believe strongly in too.
The Common Room
Common Sense Studios from Ocean Studios, Plymouth, have been invited to curate The Common Room. A new space where adults can come and unleash their creative talent, learn a new skill and meet local makers. We have pulled experts from Ocean Studios, Plymouth College of Art and the surrounding areas to give you a fantastic range of bookable and drop-in workshops for all levels.
Common Sense will be out and about over the weekend with their mobile print unit where you can have a go and print the Craft Festival official tote bag. Come and find us at the festival and show us your squeegee skills!
