I worked on the first four Made by Hand events in Cardiff and it’s one of the highlights of my year. Most years I end up going back each day and find it hard to stop myself from buying!
Hannah is such a talented furniture maker and I find her bespoke wood furniture so appealing, especially the split leaf coffee table which I’m determined to buy one year! I also love her mounted flower vases which are so unusual and eye-catching.
I’m fascinated by the art of willow weaving and you can see Sarah from Hatton Willow doing demos at Made by Hand in Cardiff – I could watch her for hours! Based in Caerphilly, Hatton Willow grow the willow and produce a range of lovely baskets and other products which they sell each year at the event.
Sian’s stand at Made by Hand is very popular but she always takes the time to chat to every single customer. Her woven and knitted homeware and clothing are beautifully designed and such lovely quality. I particularly love her knitted lampshades.
My husband first noticed Eleri’s work at Made by Hand and was instantly drawn by her beautiful yet simple recycled ceramics. I bought him two of her cups and saucers for Christmas, which look lovely together and bought my Dad, a Swansea City fan, an espresso cup with a ‘swan’ handle which he loves!
I am a bit of a jewellery nut and end up buying one or two pieces each year at Made by Hand. I think the jewellery stands at the event are outstanding – it’s so hard to choose. But, this year, I have my eye on Leoma Drew’s work – the butterfly inspired pieces and her necklaces are really beautiful and unusual.
