I don’t know this work, but am very much looking forward to seeing it at this year’s show. Selwyn House is a design and making partnership between Sean Best and Ellie Smalls and they make wooden vessels, utensils and serving boards alongside beautiful block printed linens. Everything is about a celebration of making and serving food, of beauty and function. They describe themselves as “food-lovers at heart - if we're not thinking about food, we're thinking about the tableware to eat it at!”
It’s the time of year for tactile textiles and I especially love Katie’s collection of knitted lambswool gloves. They’re exceptionally well made and I really like her playful colour combinations.
This beautifully sculptural jewellery uses a colour palette of grey, blue, rust and yellow, based on Bronwen’s views of the River Severn in Gloucestershire. I’m really excited to see this collection. Materials including recycled plastics, eco resins and cement are expertly worked as though they’re precious metals. The results are wonderfully tactile and very special.
Juliette’s willow sculptures are so full of character, drama and humour. I’m really happy to see that she’ll be demonstrating at the show. I took part in a willow workshop at The Contemporary Craft Festival and made a woven plant support. It was just a simple design, but it was ridiculously wonky, so I have a lot of admiration for Juliette’s skill!! I'm really looking forward to meeting Juliette and to watch her demonstrate her craft at Made by Hand
Virginia Graham perfectly combines beautiful, colourful decoration with exciting forms… maybe a large spout, an elaborate handle or a flamboyant lid. With a nod to different styles of traditional tableware, she uses a combination of slip casting and hand building techniques and her signature black slip is used at joints to highlight the making process, as well as create contrast. Her inimitable, eclectic designs never fail to make me smile and they’re a delight to use every day!
