Wrap Up and Think of Craft

Wrap Up and Think of Craft
With just 4 weeks to go until Craft Festival Cardiff opens at City Hall in Cardiff, we have more beautiful makers to introduce to you. As Under The Thatch are giving away a weekend in one of their beautiful cottages in Wales, we asked manager, Bethan Dalton to choose her 5 favourites. Her choices are a perfect mix of warmth, function and wrap-yourself-up cosy textiles. Perfect!
Here are Bethan’s choices
Rosie Brewer
Rosie Brewer’s hand-carved wooden homewares are very “Under the Thatch” - one of her bowls, made on Dartmoor in the wilds of Devon, would feel right at home on the table of any of our holiday cottages!
Reptile Tiles
I discovered Reptile Tiles at last year’s Craft Festival Cardiff and fell in love with their work. They are based in Llanglydwen, in deeply rural Carmarthenshire, and can’t get enough of those cats and lions! As soon as I got home I immediately followed them on Instagram to keep up with their latest creations
Sian O'Doherty Textiles
I’m drawn to Sian's designs and colour choices. I love the fact that she keeps alpaca on her smallholding near Tenby in Pembrokeshire and uses their wool. I’m eyeing up and hat and scarf set for the winter
Ruth Green Printmaker
Ruth has recently relocated to a beautiful area of Powys in Mid Wales near Llanfyllin. I really like how Ruth combines mid-century design and the British countryside
Katie Victoria
I love the knitwear made by Katie Victoria, from the socks up to the hats made near Swansea to the jumpers and wraps and everything in between!
Thank you Bethan. You can see the full collection of holiday cottages from Under the Thatch HERE
The Letterpress Collective
We are lucky to meet amazing people as we search out amazing makers to introduce to you. You have the opportunity to meet Nick Hand and his team from The Letter Press Collective at Craft Festival Cardiff. The Letterpress Collective has gathered together beautiful wood and lead type as well as a collection of amazing printing presses including their iconic printing bicycle which will be on their stand, with an Adana 8x5 press on the back. Throughout the Festival, you can print a postcard, bookmark or coaster with designs that will change throughout the Festival. Read more about our Special Features HERE
Love Making....
A trip to Craft Festival wouldn't be complete without having a go at making yourself. The brilliant Make it in Wales has put together a tasty timetable of two-hour workshops for you to enjoy. Learn free-stitch embroidery with Suzi Park, make a leather dog collar with Nia Denman, paper-cutting with Erica Frances George, felt making with Ruth Packham and Yarn Art with Llio James. Some workshops are already sold out and just a few places left on the rest so BOOK NOW
Your Craft Festival Needs You!
We are looking for more volunteering, can you help us? We need a small army of volunteers to help power Craft Festival. We have a range of fun roles from meeting and greeting our makers, selling tickets, setting up, giving out information and helping in the children's workshops. If you can help us, we'd love to hear from you by October 11th. CLICK HERE TO VOLUNTEER
