Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre, new Director chooses their 5 Favourites from Made by Hand, Cardiff
We asked our friends at Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre to choose their 5 favourites from Made by Hand. We have worked with Llantarnam since we started Made by Hand, back when it was at Tredegar House, and they are an integral part of our team. As well as being great supporters of the event, they also deliver the free children's craft activities at City Hall. We're delighted that, recently appointed acting Director, Louise Jones-Williams has chosen her 5 favourites. Meet all these makers at Made by Hand in November.
I first saw their work last year at MBH and just love their simple, laid back aesthetic. An obvious love of materials and home permeates their work combining English and Japanese materials, traditions and tools.
Kayleigh's illustrations and creatures are beautifully made in a variety of media - clay, paint, wire, vintage finds and fabric. Each have a unique whimsical charm, their expressions, clothes and actions all telling their own story.
I love this enamelled jewellery, simple in design but so unusual. The shapes and forms, coloured with beautiful enamel are somewhere between futuristic organisms and archaeological finds.
We exhibited Judit's work in our graduate show Portal last year and I am thrilled to see she is continuing to develop her work. Her functional ceramics are so vibrant, inspired by Hungary's traditional folk pottery and landscape.
I saw Fern's beautiful bright, fun jewellery at MBH last year and quickly asked her to take part in our of our Jewellery Showcase's at Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre. We also selected her to take part in our One Year On exhibition this year.
